Amun (Amun-Re) was mainly only worshipped at Thebes until the capital of ancient Egypt was moved to Thebes. Then he was recognised as the "King of Gods".
Amun was supposed to be married to Mut and their son was Khonsu, a moon god. Amun was closely connected with the ram. When shown as a king, he wears the crown of two plumes and often sits on a throne.
By combining Amun (the invisible one) with Re, the Sun, Amun-Re became visible as the Sun. The pharaoh got his power from Amun-Re. In return, the pharaoh supported the temples and the worship of Amun.
