Thoth was the Ibis-headed god whose name means 'Truth' and 'Time'. Thoth was a god of creation, but was also thought to be the one who civilised men. It was Thoth who helped Isis work the ritual to bring Osiris back from the dead.
Thoth helped Horus destroy his wicked uncle Set. Thoth was also the representation of Re in the afterlife. He was believed to be the author of the spells in the Book of the Dead and was a helper (and punisher) of the deceased as they tried to enter the underworld.
