The ancient Egyptians had a clear view of life and death. They saw Egypt as Heaven on Earth (a promised land). So the Earth was a mirror of Heaven and they saw Egypt reflected in the stars. For example, they saw the Milky Way galaxy of stars as being the Nile in the heavens.

They believed in life after death. It was just a matter of getting to Heaven in the stars.
