Tutankhamun ruled Egypt between 1334 and 1325 BC, after a short rule by his relative Smenkhkare.
As the son of Akhenaten, he was brought up in the new city of Amarna.
When he was nine years old he was married to Ankhesenpaaten, perhaps his sister, who was later remaned after the god Amun as well, her name becoming Ankhesenamun.
He was too young to rule alone and so the job of governing was done by his general (and later pharaoh), Ay. Tutankhamun concentrated on rebuilding the temples at Thebes that his father had had destroyed.
