Make sure your legend lives on
Every pharaoh had themselves carved on many buildings and had their names, as cartouches, put alongside. They hoped that these carvings would preserve their names and their achievements for ever.

But, when a pharaoh died, the ruler who followed might have hated the person who went before them and may command that their cartouches and faces be chipped away.

It was also possible for the pharaohs to have records made on papyrus. We have not found any evidence of such papyrus scrolls, but suppose they are still buried somewhere out in the Egyptian desert? What do you think would be written on them?

Choose to be either Ahkenaten (man) or Hatshepsut (woman). Now watch the video and find out more about what they did by reading pages 2 and 4 of the pharaoh section.

Having gathered all of your evidence, write the story about yourself that you would like to be preserved for all time.

Begin it "I, Akhenaten (or Hatshepsut)...."
