During iron Age times, people changed the design of the roofs to their homes. They started to cut reeds and make thatch instead of using turfs to roof each house.
The roofs were steeper - about 45 degrees - and there was no need for an inner set of poles to hold the roof up.
Around the fire people started using metal objects like knives and fire spits to roast food on or to hand pots above the flames.
