Q1: What was the purpose of the armistice?

[Answer]

An armistice is an agreement to stop fighting. It is not the same as a peace treaty ending a war, but it is vital because it stops the killing.

The Germans and her allies agreed to an armistice which took effect at 11 am on the 11th of November 1918, that is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

In 1919 King George V wanted to find a day to mark the end of the war and remember those who fell or were wounded. That is how Armistice Day became Remembrance Day.
