Remember that we said Germany and her allies more or less matched Britain and her allies. And neither had the weapons to overcome the other. So it was a stalemate.

America did not take part in the war for three years because it was a country made up mainly of immigrants that came from all sides of the war in Europe.

But, over the years, several very important things happened. The first one was when a German submarine sank a British ship which had Americans on board. It was the Lusitania.
