The Falklands War was fought in 1982 between Argentina and the United Kingdom when Argentina invaded the British Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The war was started because the unpopular military dictators in Argentina wanted to find a reason for becoming popular again, hoping people would forget how useless they had been. They thought the UK would give in because the Falklands were such a long way away. Margaret Thatcher, however, sent a task force to get them back.
