But you may want to study just the area around your school.

The way to do that is

First:

Choose a bigger area (your town, borough, rural district, or whatever)that is big enough to get general information. Call this "Introduction to the area where I live"

Then:

You can set your detailed study within this. The general view also gives you pointers as to what may be of interest in your local area: its history, the fact that it is by a river, a coast and so on.
