If we stand back from a city we can see clearly that it is different in the center to the outside.
Cities like London are too big to look at in this way, so here we look at San Francisco in America, which is quite a small city even though it is famous. It's dramatically different between the center and countryside as you can see in this picture.
You could almost point to the center of many American cities by the height of their buildings.
