The great watershed in Asia is formed by the Himalayan mountain system and the Mongolian Plateau. To the east this, the world's highest divide, rivers flow to the Pacific Ocean, to the north they flow to the Arctic Ocean, while to the south they flow into the Indian Ocean.

The biggest Asian rivers are the Chang Jiang (Yangtze), Angara, Huang He (Yellow), Ob, Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra and Mekong.
