Making simple observations is a key skill which needs practise. Once you are used to it, you can use nature to show you what is going on.

Observing

A lot of investigating can be done with no equipment at all.

This picture has been taken from a bridge over a river. We want to know how the water is flowing. The river is too big to measure.

We can look at the weed in the river. It clearly shows how the water flows to the outside of the bend and then crosses over before the next bend - just what we wanted to know!
