The harsh winter weather that used to keep people away from high mountains now attracts them - for skiing holidays.
Each winter tens of millions of people go skiing. In summer many people also want to go sightseeing and walking, so that holiday-making in the mountains has become a year round business, and made some towns prosperous again.
