There's a big difference between the weather at the bottom and top of a mountain, and so you find many types of plant as you climb upwards.
As you climb up from the valley floor, you are at first surrounded by forests.
But the higher slopes are too cold, windy and snowy for trees. It's like a cold desert. So on the upper slopes only tough, low-growing plants can survive.
