Q1: What is an extinction?

[Answer]

Over the billions of years of life on Earth, new species have evolved while other species have faded away, that is they have become extinct.

But there are times when many species become extinct together. It may be a catastrophic volcanic eruption (super-eruption), or a quick change of climate such as an Ice Age.
None of these natural causes are responsible for today's extinctions, however. We are!
