When people go to the beach, they choose a place to stay. But they are not scattered evenly over the beach. This is because the beach plays a part in deciding where they stay.
The top of the beach is the highest and driest and out of reach of tides for longest. It is also the most sheltered. This is why it is most popular and gets crowded.
Farther out, the lower beach is flatter, but wetter and windier, so fewer people choose it.
