  Altair
  Altair
The 12th brightest star in the sky, 16 light-years from the Earth.
It is visible as part of a triangle
of stars, of which the others are Deneb and Vega.
Andromeda
A constellation found in the northern sky and containing the Andromeda Galaxy.
Andromeda Galaxy
The nearest spiral galaxy to the Solar System, lying 2.3 million light-years away. It has a mass 400 billion times that of our Sun, which makes it just a little more massive than our galaxy. It stretches over an area of 150 light-years.
 Andromeda Galaxy—The nearest galaxy to the Solar System. Like the Solar System,
it has more stars near the center, giving it
a bulging appearance.
Angstrom
A tiny unit of length 10-10 meters (that is, 10 divided by 10 trillion meters) and used to measure the wavelengths of light. The symbol for angstrom is Å. It is named after the 19th-century Swedish physicist Anders Jonas Ångström. It has been replaced by the nanometer, which is ten times larger.
Antipodal point
The point of a planet directly opposite any other point. For example, on Earth the North Pole is the antipodal point to the South Pole.
