What is a Roman villa? A Roman villa is the countryside house and estate of a wealthy Roman.

A Roman villa was a kind of country estate. Rich Romans had a town house (called a domus) and a country estate called a villa. They called them villa rustica - literally country house. The villa included all the farm buildings, although, over time, we have changed what we mean by villa to mean a town house.
