Uranus

What is Uranus? Uranus is the seventh major planet from the Sun and one of the gas giants.

Uranus.

Uranus, which is 51,100 kilometres across, is about four times the diameter and fifteen times as massive as the Earth. It makes a complete orbit of the Sun every 84 years at a distance of 2.9 billion kilometres. It spins on its axis quite quickly, creating a day once in just over 17 hrs.

Uranus has a dense atmosphere of hydrogen and helium which is over 8,000 kilometres thick. Beneath this is an ocean of hot water over 10,000 kilometres deep.

The solid part of the planet is made of rock and is about the same size as the Earth. At the centre is a core of molten rock. There are rings surrounding the planet. Uranus also has five major moons and ten smaller ones.
