What is transparent or translucent? Transparent is something that you can see through clearly. Translucent is something you can see light coming through, but which does not allow you to see through clearly.

A transparent material is something you can see though clearly. Glass is a transparent material. A translucent material is something you can see through slight. Frosted glass is a translucent material.

The main transparent materials are glass and plastic. Transparent materials are used in many ways. Glass and plastic are used for jars, but glass is used on car windscreens because plastic is too soft. Plastic is used for the windows on radios, calculators and the like because plastic is less likely to break and it is lighter.
