Spark

What is a spark? A spark is a short flow of electricity that makes the air around it so hot it glows.

Sparks on your body, a switch and lightning.

A spark is when an electric current passes through air, making it so hot it glows. Hot air takes up more space than cold air, so the hot air pushes at the air around it, which pushes out in turn. This causes a wave of air to move and we hear it as the sound of a spark.

When we hear a spark in a cloud, we call the spark lightning and the sound thunder. It is a common example of static electricity.
