Seaside

What is the seaside? The seaside is the strip of land bordering the coast.

The seaside.

The seaside is the name given to the part of a coast which people have developed for holidaymaking. The whole area between land and sea is the coast. So, people would say 'I am going to the seaside', meaning they will be going to the beach, usually near to a resort. But they might say 'that is the Mediterranean coast', meaning the entire border between land and sea.
