Sea stack

What is a sea stack? A sea stack is a pinnacle of rock just off a coast.

The '12 Apostle's sea stacks on the southern coast of Australia (there are now only 11 due to more wave action)..

A sea stack is a pinnacle or pillar of rock that was once part of the coast. Not all parts of the coast have rocks that are equally hard. The sea will wash away the softer areas faster than the harder areas, and that is why some parts remain as stacks for a while.

Video: a video is available showing sea stacks in chalk rock.
