Sacrifice

What is a sacrifice? A sacrifice means to present an offering to a god. Often meant as the slaughtering of a living thing.

Abraham about to sacrifice his son before being stopped by God.

Sacrifice is when food, objects like small statues of gods, flowers, or the lives of animals and even people are given up as a form of worship.

Not everyone or every religion understands the idea of sacrifice as killing, but more giving something, that is making an offering.

Perhaps the most famous human sacrifices were made by the Aztecs on the steps of their temples, when tens of thousands of people, mostly soldiers captured in battle, were killed as offerings to the Aztec gods.
