Revelation

What is a Revelation? A Revelation is when God reveals a truth to a person on Earth.

Statues like this are often placed to mark where a person had a Revelation.

The Truth has been revealed to people throughout time. For example Moses experienced a revelation when he was given the Ten Commandments on Mt Sinai. The Qur'an was revealed to Mohammed word by word and letter by letter over a long period of time.

If the revelation appeared as a person, angel, or some divine spirit, this revelation is called a vision. A vision of this kind was reported by Marie Bernarde "Bernadette" Soubirous at Lourdes, France. As a result she is venerated as a Saint in the Catholic Church.

She saw a "small young lady" who asked for a chapel to be built at a cave. The lady later told her that she was the Virgin Mary. The shrine at Lourdes has become a major pilgrimage site, with over five million pilgrims arriving every year.
