Orbit

What is an orbit? An orbit is the path followed by a small body about another one. The Earth is in orbit around the Sun. Satellites are in orbit around the Earth.

Planetary orbits.

All the objects in our Solar System orbit the Sun. Each object is in a different orbit. The Moon orbits the Earth in a path that is almost circular; the Earth and Moon orbit the Sun together in a path that is much more oval (called elliptical). The planets each orbit the Sun in an elliptical path.
