Homer

Who was Homer? Homer was a Greek writer, and famous for his plays.

Homer on a coin.

Homer is one of the most famous poets the world has ever known. He wrote the famous Ancient Greek poems called the Iliad and the Odyssey in about the 8th century BC.

The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy (known as Ilium) by the Greeks. It tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles.

When it reaches an end, the poem has told a more or less complete tale of the Trojan War.

The Odyssey is a sequel to the Iliad. The Odyssey is about the Greek hero Odysseus (Roman Ulysses) and his ten year journey home after the fall of Troy.

Homer was said to be 'the teacher of Greece'. Homer's works are about half speeches.
