Font, church

What is a font? A font is the dish in a church in which Holy Water is placed for a baptism.

Children being baptised in water from the font.

A font is a bowl on a pedestal. It is usually found near to where people enter a church.

The position of the font is important. When people are baptised, they are entering the church, not just the building, but the family of people who make up the church. So it is appropriate that the font is placed by the entrance.
