What is a crab? A crab is a crustacean is an animal such as a crab, a lobster or shrimp, with a body covered in a hard shell, and a head with two pairs of feelers called antennae.

The crab and the lobster shows the features of a crustacean well. A crustacean looks as if it is in a suit of armour. This is the hard shell. There are joints in the shell to make it flexible. You can see the joints in the claws and legs. The antennae wave about in front of the head.

Other common crustaceans are prawns, barnacles and water fleas.
