The Colorado River is one of North America’s great rivers. It flows from its source at La Poudre Pass, in the Rocky Mountains in the United States, then, with its branches it drains parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California until it reaches Mexico and the states of Baja California and Sonora. On this 1,450mi/2,300km journey it falls nearly 11,000ft/3,300m and drains nearly 250,000sq mi/650,000sq km of the western United States.
