Centurion

What was a centurion? A centurion was someone in charge of a group of 80-130 legionaries in the Roman army.

Centurion.

A centurion was a leader of a section of the Roman Army. Although you might think that the centurion led 100 men, in fact the centurions were in change of anywhere between 80 and 130 men. In modern terms they would be of officer rank, but they were also responsible for training their men and they led them in to battle.
