Calvary

What is Calvary? Calvary was the place where Jesus was crucified.

Calvary, the place of crucifixion, took place on a rocky outcrop known as Golgotha. Both names are used to describe the place where Jesus was crucified. Today that place is inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, but where the church now stands was once a small rocky hill just outside the walls of the city of Jerusalem. That is because no one would be put to death inside the city. What has happened is that the city has just got bigger and bigger, so that now calvary appears to be in the middle of the city.
