Bend

What does the word bend mean? The word bend means to alter the shape of something along a line.

Someone bending a bar.

Any material will bend if it is not brittle. Elastic materials will bend, but then spring back into shape. Materials that bend and then stay in the shape you put them are called flexible materials.

Being able to bend something into shape is very important. Being able to bend a sheet of steel, for example, is important in making the bodywork of a motor car.
