Beam (of light)

What is a beam? A beam is a ray of light whose edges can be seen.

A lighthouse with beams of light coming from its bulb to warn ships of the position of the coast.

A beam of light is a wide ray. You see beams of light coming from lighthouses as shown here. If a cloud partially blocks the Sun, you may also see beams of light coming through gaps in the cloud. These are sunbeams.
