Altar

What is an alter? An alter is a place where a religious sacrifice or offering is made. Some Christians prefer the term 'Communion Table'.

A Christian altar is often a raised area, usually near the eastern end of a church. It is where the main cross is placed and where communion vessels are placed during a service.
